DSA — Digital Services Act

DSA stands for Digital Services Act, EU Regulation 2022/2065 governing intermediary services such as hosting, social networks and online marketplaces. It has generally applied since 17 February 2024.

It covers reporting illegal content, transparent moderation and user protection. Duties depend on the service type and size: small businesses are exempt from some requirements, while the largest platforms have additional duties.

Website owners should assess whether their service stores or shares user content. Comments, reviews or listings may require a DSA assessment. A website presenting its own business offer does not thereby become an online platform. The DSA does not replace the GDPR.
